On “Basketball,” Phil’s hard work is put to the test. He has doubted himself and then perseveres. We saw it earlier in the season when he decided to go for his dream of Dunphy Tower after a boost of confidence. However, there have been new developments with Phil. Modern Family has been on-air for eight seasons and therefore, much of the character development has fallen by the wayside. We know that Phil doesn’t do anything half-heartedly, so his desire to become a better player is consistent with his character.Īlong the way, there is some physical comedy which Ty Burrell is a master of.īut we also see vulnerable Phil, which makes him so endearing.

Phil is so dedicated with practicing his free throws that he even gets out of bed in his jammies before he goes to sleep to throw a few more. In the cold open, Phil practices his basketball skills after he choked at a school fundraiser the year before. Update: Here's my review of tonight's Fear premiere.Modern Family Season 8 Episode 16 “Basketball” is a delight to watch. Let me know what you thought of the Season 8 finale, and whether or not you're taking my advice and checking out Fear The Walking Dead on Twitter and Facebook. And be sure to watch Fear The Walking Dead. My review for that show's Season 4 premiere will go live soon as well. In the meantime, let me know what you think. I'll have another post up talking about the season as a whole and what went wrong (and how they can avoid those problems in Season 9 by reading and taking my advice!) up tomorrow.
More than anything, I'm just glad this season is over (though I'll miss writing about it and hearing all of your thoughts.) It wasn't terrible, it just wasn't much else either. No tension, no surprise, not much to really write home about. And that's fine, setting up next season is fine, but the season finale itself was pretty lackluster overall. And that might be the better outcome.īut that's just setup. I thought it would have been really cool to have him killed off in a surprise twist, but on the other hand keeping him alive creates interesting character conflicts between our heroes. I'm a little torn on the question of Negan dying vs not dying.

It just drags out way too long and the writers and producers aren't skilled enough at their craft to make sure the plot stays interesting the whole time. This is partly the problem with having 16 episodes in a season. We had way too many battles leading up to this and each one took the air out of this one's sails. Just nothing that surprising or interesting, either. for Season 9.Īndrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes in a memory of Carl.
